llms.txt Examples: 6 Real Files, and llms.txt vs llms-full.txt
Updated: October 13, 2026llms.txt is a markdown file at the root of a site with a short summary and a list of key pages for language models. Below: the file’s structure, six real examples from well-known sites, how it differs from llms-full.txt, and what AI services officially say about reading it.
What the file is and why it exists is covered in the llms.txt guide. This article is about examples and format.
The structure of llms.txt
Per the proposal (Jeremy Howard, September 2024), only an H1 with the site’s name is required. Then, in order: a blockquote with a short summary, any paragraphs or lists without headings, and H2 sections with lists of links. A section named “Optional” holds secondary links that an agent can skip when it is short on space. The file lives at /llms.txt.
6 real llms.txt examples
Each file was fetched with curl on October 13, 2026 and returned 200. Fragments are copied as is and cut with “…”. All six are developer sites: that is where the format caught on first.
1. llmstxt.org
llmstxt.org/llms.txt · 637 bytes
The proposal’s own file. The minimum that works: H1, a one-sentence summary, one H2 section with three links and short notes.

2. Svelte
svelte.dev/llms.txt · 1.7 KB; llms-full.txt 1.26 MB
A short index that points to the same documentation in three sizes: abridged, compressed and complete. The agent picks the one that fits its context.
# Svelte Documentation for LLMs > Svelte is a UI framework that uses a compiler … ## Documentation Sets - [Abridged documentation](https://svelte.dev/llms-medium.txt): A shorter version … - [Compressed documentation](https://svelte.dev/llms-small.txt): A minimal version … - [Complete documentation](https://svelte.dev/llms-full.txt): The complete Svelte and SvelteKit documentation …
3. Vercel
vercel.com/llms.txt · 4.9 KB
Besides links, it tells agents when the product fits and how to use it, and ends with an Optional section for secondary resources.
# Vercel > Vercel is a cloud platform for building, deploying, and scaling web applications and AI workloads. ## When to use Vercel … ## How agents should use Vercel … ## Optional - [Product taxonomy](https://vercel.com/docs/taxonomy.json): Canonical product names, aliases, and deprecations.
4. Stripe
docs.stripe.com/llms.txt · 92.5 KB, 26 H2 sections
Opens with plain instructions for agents before any list — the spec allows text sections without headings. Then a long index by product.
# Stripe Documentation When installing Stripe packages, always check the npm registry for the latest version rather than relying on memorized version numbers. … ## Docs - [Testing](https://docs.stripe.com/testing.md): Simulate payments to test your integration. - [API Reference](https://docs.stripe.com/api.md) …
5. Cloudflare
developers.cloudflare.com/llms.txt · 16.9 KB; llms-full.txt 68 MB
An index of indexes: each product links to its own llms.txt. Useful when one file for the whole site would be too long.
# Cloudflare Developer Documentation Explore guides and tutorials to start building on Cloudflare's platform. > Each product below links to its own llms.txt, which contains a full index of that product's documentation pages … ## Application performance - [Cache / CDN](https://developers.cloudflare.com/cache/llms.txt): Make websites faster by caching content across our global server network …
6. Anthropic
platform.claude.com/llms.txt · 82.9 KB

# Anthropic Developer Documentation This file provides an overview of the Anthropic API documentation and developer resources. … ## English ### Docs home - [Documentation](https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/home.md) …
An example for a small business
This is our example, not a real site. For a shop or a café one section of pages with prices, address and terms is enough. Put facts in the notes: prices, hours, delivery areas.
# Green Leaf Café > Specialty coffee shop and bakery in Austin, TX. Open daily 7:00–19:00, breakfast until 11:00. ## Pages - [Menu and prices](https://example.com/menu): Coffee from $3, breakfast sets from $9. - [Delivery](https://example.com/delivery): Delivery within 5 km, free from $30. - [Contacts](https://example.com/contacts): 12 Main St, phone, map. ## Optional - [About us](https://example.com/about): Story of the café since 2019.
llms.txt vs llms-full.txt
| llms.txt | llms-full.txt | |
|---|---|---|
| Contents | A summary and links to pages | The full text of the docs in one file |
| Size in the examples | 637 bytes – 92.5 KB | 1.26 MB (Svelte) – 68 MB (Cloudflare) |
| In the proposal | Yes | No, a convention of documentation sites |
| Who needs it | Any site | Sites with large documentation |
The llmstxt.org proposal page does not mention llms-full.txt. Documentation sites publish it: among our examples, Svelte, Cloudflare and Vercel. Stripe’s /llms-full.txt returned 404 on 2026-10-13. A shop or a services site rarely needs llms-full.txt: a short llms.txt with links is enough.
Do AI services read llms.txt?
Official statements only, checked on October 13, 2026:
- Google. Its AI optimization guide (updated 2026-07-10): you don’t need new machine-readable or AI text files to appear in Google Search, “as Google Search itself doesn’t use them”. Creating llms.txt for other services is “completely fine”.
- Chrome Lighthouse. Its experimental agentic-browsing category has an llms.txt audit (updated 2026-05-05). It flags only a server error when fetching the file; a 404 makes the audit not applicable. Per the docs, providing the file is optional “at the moment”.
- OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity. Their bot pages (OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity) contain no statement that their search or assistants read other sites’ llms.txt. Anthropic and Perplexity do publish their own llms.txt for their docs.
Bottom line: llms.txt is a cheap supporting file. It helps agents and developer tools that look for it. None of ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity has confirmed it affects their answers.
