Causabi vs Otterly: Which AI Visibility Tool Is Right for You? (2026)
Both tools track your mentions in ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI engines. But they take very different approaches — and the right choice depends on whether you just want monitoring, or whether you want to actually improve your visibility.

Quick overview
Otterly is a monitoring tool. You set up prompts, it tracks whether your brand appears in AI responses across multiple engines, and you get reports. It's been bootstrapped to 15,000-20,000 users and was recognized as a Gartner Cool Vendor in 2025.
Causabi does monitoring too, but the main product is optimization: it scans your site, identifies what's blocking you in AI search, generates the fix files (robots.txt, FAQPage schema, llms.txt, AI profile), and tracks your visibility across ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Claude through the official APIs.
The key difference: Otterly tells you where you stand. Causabi tells you where you stand and helps you move.

API coverage: the important difference
Otterly tracks 6 AI engines — more than Causabi's 4. But how they connect to those engines matters more than the count.
Causabi uses official APIs exclusively: OpenAI Responses API (with web_search_preview), Google Gemini API, xAI Grok API, and Anthropic Claude API. This means results are identical to what real users see when they ask these engines a question.
Some competitors — and we believe Otterly falls into this category for certain engines — use browser automation or unofficial methods to query AI engines. Browser-based results can differ from API results and may not reflect the web search behavior that affects your actual visibility.
For the 4 engines Causabi covers (which are the 4 engines with the highest actual user traffic), you get exact, authoritative data. More engines with less-reliable methods isn't always better.
What Otterly does better
- More AI engine coverage — Otterly tracks 6 engines including some Causabi doesn't (Perplexity, Meta AI). If you specifically need Perplexity coverage, Otterly has it.
- Established product with a bigger user base — 15,000+ users means there's more community knowledge, more integrations, and a more battle-tested product at scale.
- More established reporting — Otterly has had more time to build reporting features. If detailed analytics dashboards are your primary need, Otterly may have more options.
What Causabi does better
- Optimization, not just monitoring — Causabi generates the files that actually improve your visibility. Otterly tells you the score; Causabi tells you the score and hands you the homework.
- Free tier with real value — The free scan + download requires no account and gives you the actual fix files for your site. Otterly's $29/mo has too few prompts to be useful.
- WordPress + Shopify plugins — No other GEO tool has CMS integrations. If you're on WordPress (800M+ sites) or Shopify, this is a decisive advantage.
- BYOK on Agency plan — Use your own API keys, which means monitoring costs approach zero at scale. Causabi's Agency plan at $99/mo with BYOK is dramatically cheaper for high-volume agency use than Otterly's $989/mo.
- Open source Python library — causabi-geo on PyPI is MIT-licensed. Developers can run GEO audits programmatically, integrate into CI/CD, and self-host without paying anything.
Who should use which tool
Small business owner (non-technical)
Free analysis without signup, one-click fix files, no need to understand the technology. Otterly's $29 starter tier has too few prompts to tell you anything useful.
Digital marketing agency (5-50 clients)
BYOK + multi-client dashboard + up to 25 sites at $99/mo; white-label on request. Otterly's comparable plan is $989/mo — a 10x price difference for the same core workflow.
SaaS company (needs Perplexity coverage)
If Perplexity tracking is a requirement, Otterly covers it. Causabi doesn't currently track Perplexity (no API key). Run Causabi for optimization + Otterly for Perplexity-specific monitoring.
Developer / technical user
Open source causabi-geo Python library, REST API, BYOK. Otterly has no developer-first interface.
Enterprise (SOC2 required)
Look at Profound ($499+/mo) — SOC2 certified, Sequoia-backed, built for enterprise compliance requirements.
FAQ
What is the main difference between Causabi and Otterly?
Otterly focuses on monitoring — tracking when you're mentioned in AI responses. Causabi does monitoring AND optimization — it generates the fix files (robots.txt, schema, llms.txt) that actually improve your visibility. Causabi also has WordPress and Shopify plugins, and uses official APIs exclusively.

Does Otterly or Causabi have a WordPress plugin?
Only Causabi has a WordPress plugin. The plugin automatically generates and deploys llms.txt, robots.txt, and FAQPage schema from your WP admin — no code required. Otterly is monitoring-only with no CMS integrations.
